And yet, so far in 2016, more than a third of McDonald's PAC money has gone to Democrats. Why would a McDonald's Operator contribute to such a PAC?
The Associated Press, Reuters, Consumerist and others report that McDonald's has agreed to pay $3.75 million to settle a federal lawsuit that sought to hold the company liable for alleged labor law violations by a San Francisco-based franchise owner. McDonald's stated that "with this agreement, McDonald's reconfirms that it is not the employer of or responsible for employees of its independent franchisees." The news is also gaining attention on social media. After the New York Times reported last month that McDonald's worked with Teneo Holdings to craft its message around pay levels, the Huffington Post notes that Teneo has "close ties" to the Clinton family and the Democratic Party. The outlet asked Service Employees International Union to comment, and received a statement from a McDonald's worker who criticized the company for spending "big money on a consulting firm to keep wages low and hold back workers."
