A few anonymous posters have stated McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson
contributed
$60,000 to Barrack Obama’s presidential campaign(s). I don’t think that’s correct
and
don’t want to be guilty of spreading internet mythology.
After visiting numerous political disclosure websites and press articles I can
only find a contribution from Thompson to Obama of $28,500 in mid-2008. If someone has different
information I’d be glad to post a correction here.

Even $28,000 is FAR TOO much to an anti-business administration. However the $60,000 figure ,I believe is accurate and is from both Don and/or His wife Elizabeth (who is UNEMPLOYED)of Burr Ridge Ill. It is common in political circles to credit donations to a spouse or child to disguise ones trail. The $60k is accurate for 2007-2012
You’re right that is common practice, I’ll look into it.
It’s not my job to make excuses for MCD corporate folks but we should keep in mind the political
climate that existed in 2008. Don Thompson was one of the most prominent business people in
Chicagoland. Barrack Obama was the home town guy. I’ll bet we could find prominent Chicago
Republicans who gave at least something to Obama. In 2008 did anyone know how anti-business
this administration would become?
Having said that – by the 2012 election we knew about Obamacare and many other bad-for-everybody
changes had been made. If Don Thompson donated to Obama’s reelection that shows bad judgment
in both business and politics.
