McDonald's Taps Former Executive to Turn Around U.S.

McDonald's management used to boast about a "deep bench". How deep can the "bench"
be if they have to scrounge around looking for former employees to rehire?

Was at Logan's Roadhouse for two years - WSJ

Logan's has 260 restaurants in 23 states.

They must really be worried about sales if Stratton was "retired" early !
Fields and Stratton are both scapegoats. The real problem is DON THOMPSON

If my McD stores or my organization had that kind of turnover I'd be unexpandable!

getting pretty crowded under that MC-bus.

If Andres was so good, why did they sell Boston Market under his leadership? Why did Andres go to a third tier brand like Logans?

When will Wall Street see the light and demand Don Thompson be FIRED?

Watch out Operators. Andres is a hatchet man. Remember, McDonald's problems are all the Operator's fault!

Yes its our fault. We are a bunch of lazy bums who spend all day on the golf course. Only Oak Brook knows best.

Isn't this the guy who caused a lot of o/o morale problems and legal battles in Northern California when he was there?

If you watched the recent web cast. Everyone was congratulating everyone else for the first 5 minutes.

Surprised Mr. Stratton left so early, he was doing such a great job building our sales and setting such a good example.

He will be missed. NOT.

I agree Mr. Stratton will be missed. Our region was on fire under his leadership.

I think a lot of us would take that job for two years, get paid more than a million dollars plus stock and then head into the sunset.

Where do I sign up?

What was his pay anyway? Someone knows more than me.

Can someone give us the top reasons Andres was hired, I would really like to know seeing I am paying rent and service fees of aprox. 1.5 million?

Mr. Adams probably knows.

No, Mr. Adams can't tell you why he was rehired. I know nothing about what goes on in the bowels of Oak Brook. It could be he was always one of Don Thompson's favorites. However, if that was the case, why did he leave McDonald's about the same time DT became CEO?

I just don't pay that much attention to the corporate people, from my point of view they come and go so quickly it's not worth trying to keep up.

As for Stratton's paycheck - it's a combo of salary, bonus, stock options, perks and his golden parachute. Much of this would not be disclosed until all the company filings are complete for full year 2014.

But you're right, it's in the million$.

My larger concern about some one like Stratton leaving is that after he and Tim Fenton are gone there is almost no one in MCD upper management with an operations background.

curious to know if this kind of turmoil makes wall street investors nervous? Or does it look like Thompson is doing something about the problems?

Antes will also e aligned with Canada. So what happens to John Betts?

Throwing Jan Fields under the bus was perceived as a positive move by Wall Street. My guess is this move will be worrisome for investors, a sign of disarray.

MCD is in trouble, in my opinion. We are big enough to keep those problems under the radar for a while longer but unless the board takes decisive action soon we will become the next Howard Johnsons. I thought that Stratton should have been fired after he let that "Wing" promotion out of the house. Unbelievable screw up costing the system millions. I think the solution to many of MCD issues are fairly simple. Just get back to running the company like a BUSINESS. Put profit and cash flow back as the top prority. MCD currently is so conserned about political correctness they have lost sight of why we exist. Too many people making big decisions that are not qualified to do so.

The Andres family has McDonald’s roots. McDonald’s veterans will remember Whitey Andres, the chief corporate pilot in the 1970s and early 1980s. Many McDonald’s Operators were flown around the country by Whitey on the company’s G2.

Whitey retired from McDonald’s in 1983 to become a McDonald’s Operator. The Andres family opened
a store in Mammoth Lakes, CA late that year. This is the store son Mike Andres is given credit for managing. Older brother Russ became an Operator in the Los Angeles area.

Any connection to today’s events? Unlikely since these events preceded Don Thompson’s (or any other MCD decision maker’s) tenure at McDonald’s

I am glad Don did not call Ed Renssi or that other person that also had airplane experience.

OK so now we have 2 more years before we find a replacement.

Does Mr. Thompson like golf?

I think i will look up what Andres might have said in his comments at Logan's quarterly meeting and see how they can immediately help us.

All of us are looking forward to August and better yet September numbers. How low can we go?

Stratton had pledged to implement Menu simplification by October. With his departure, Menu Simplification will be delayed another 1-2 years while Andres "studies " it.
More BAD news

Stratton gets canned. Meanwhile Thompson makes foolish system damaging comments to the media supporting (not opposing) Minimum wage and Unions, and donates mega bucks to elect (and reelect) an anti-business Obama Administration. Why wont the board FIRE Thompson???

It would not be seen as politically correct for the Board of Directors to let Don Thompson spend more time with his family. After all, the LGBT McDonald's Operators Association was established on his watch.

If you think for a sew seconds, Andres and McDonalds have been in discussions for months. It did not just happen. Which means Mr. Stratton really had his job for a year and a half, while they were talking with Andres.

Wonder what Mr. Kroc would be thinking.

How's that stock price doing for you?

Interesting how those with deep McDonald's experience who might be a future CEO are forced into early retirement.
