President Barack Obama will deliver the annual State of the Union address this evening in Washington, D.C. A McDonald’s McOpco restaurant employee from California has been invited to attend the speech at the invitation of Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (D-CA). The original request to invite her was at the request of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The McOpCo employee has previously been involved in public events centered on minimum wage increase proposals. Congresswoman Sanchez is an active supporter of legislation to increase the federal minimum wage.

In addition, the President’s speech this evening will be focused on a number of issues, including reiterating his support for a federal minimum wage increase. He will also discuss his intention, announced earlier today, to raise the minimum wage to $10.10/hour for federal contract workers through the issuance of an Executive Order.
The President will focus on many policy issues specific to wage disparity;
The President will reiterate his support for a federal minimum wage increase;

We should expect that the SEIU will utilize this opportunity to focus on the McDonald’s Brand in their press activity around efforts to build support for raising the minimum wage.
