I totally agree with that. We serve a low to midmarket customer, not a high end gourmet customer. Ray Kroc had it right-SIMPLE LIMITED MENU served fast and cheap.

I always found it inconceivable that McDonald's management would devote so many resources to something that didn't apply to drive-thru. The idea that McDonald's will reverse the consumer's devotion to drive-thru and get them to come inside is silly. And, as I've stated before, the millennial generation is even more drive-thru crazy than their parents. As for my millennial family members, chains like Chipotle and Five Guys just don't exist because they don't have drive-thrus.

Gottta disagree - Five Guys is "simple" but as a customer I find the service to be dog slow, the crew deliberately slow, the beef may start out good but is overcooked and tasteless. They are trying to be an eastern version of In n' Out and they're not pulling it off. No one at McDonald's should aspire to be like Five Guys. I give Five Guys a 2 and Smashburger an 8.

I agree with Richard, five guys is overrated, overpriced and SLOW! Smashburger is better, has more interesting choices and flavors and comes in much lower than five guys. Smashburgers problem is they don't have great locations (in my experience) and don't have the buzz that five guys or shake shack do.

Cyt was a failure from the start. McDonald's corp keeps trying to convince people that we're something we're not. I had a ton of success with Angus and we just walked away from that for no good reason. I lost those high margin customers forever.

This continued fascination with the instore experience is such a tremendous waste of resources. Modern, progressive and no clue where 70% of our business comes from!
