I used to drive by a Wendy's location that relied on northbound traffic because a traffic island cut off southbound traffic. A tree in their landscaping had grown up to cover their road sign, making it invisible to northbound traffic. It wasn't a city "right-of-way" tree but a part of the Wendy's landscaping, so anyone with a handsaw could have trimmed it. But they let it grow, concealing the road sign from northbound traffic. How many years did that take?. The Wendy's recently closed. A large franchisee with hundreds of stores didn't have the on-the-ground personnel or local brainpower to fix such an obvious problem. A hands-on McDonald's Operator would have brought in a step ladder and trimmed that tree themselves (or cut it down). .
