Mr. Thompson is a very nice man. However, he was never qualified to be McDonald's CEO. His performance high lights that very well. He must have been a "political correctness" hire I know of no other reason he was given that position. He may have ample knowledge of the important aspects of the food business but he is no leader and never was. It is one thing to know the details of a business. It is very much another thing to be able to lead a global business organization. The difference between Thompson and Easterbrook is striking. Easterbrook could clearly see that MCD was in deep decline and knew that radical action was necessary. I don't think Thompson ever had a clue. He was worse than Greenberg. I wish all of them well but the board should have been kicked in the teeth for both of those hires.
Well said above! High risk high reward proposition he is putting together; get a lot of millionaires to throw money at restaurant concepts some might have legs then sell them out to investment bankers later on. Millionaires love to invest in restaurant concepts because it is sexy. I am sure he will have very little of his money in them at startup and will take management fees. Does not seem like a winner concept to start, a high priced juice bar in a clothing store. Those did not work in gyms with more foot traffic and longer operating hours don't think it will work here but just speculating with little information.
Thompson joins a group to replace MEAT??? Didnt he try to do that already by wrecking McDonalds?? /
He'll only be a mile from the new McD headquarters. Could make it much easier to poach some corporate employees.
And, rent office space.
