Pulling the Supply Chain

McDonald’s management is telling  Operators that food
costs are going to flatten out in the fourth quarter. Really?
At the same time millions of animals are going to market prematurely? Experts are expecting a protein supply
problem, if not this year, in 2013. And don't get me started
about other farm products.

As a McDonald’s franchisee I enjoyed the benefits of having the purchasing department looking out for the supply chain and trying to get the best prices. But this appears to be a quite different.  The corporate folks know they are only a few months out from involving the Operators in planning the 2013 advertising calendar. Management has already told the Wall Street types the future is all about “value”.

They can’t have the Operators concerned about 2013 food costs until they’ve signed off on
the OPNAD plan and all its “value”.

McDonald's Operators should do their research and not allow McSpin to drive the planning.

Most of the info we get is duplicitous.

“Push” for lot pole inspections, CO2 inspections. Don’t feel like entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurial spirit is gone – we don’t have choices anymore.

We hear about o/os wanting a 70% gross profit. Is that still possible with all this discouting? And low price points for new products?
